It has been over 20 years since the Lake Leelanau Lake Association has conducted shoreline surveys. The size of the lakes (41 miles of shoreline) and cost have been a barrier to repeating these surveys. The advent of drone technology has once again made it possible for LLLA to repeat this work in a cost effective manner. Our contractor, ZeroGravity, will start shoreline drone surveys this week. The surveys will last about two or three weeks, depending on weather. If you see an drone flying in your area, be aware that is its purpose. We hope to gain information on changes in shoreline, aquatic plant beds, Phragmites, erosion, Cladaphora occurrence, greenbelts, and possible merganser nesting cavities.
