LLLA Memberships: What it Means to be a Member

As a non-profit organization, the Lake Leelanau Lake Association (LLLA) operates based on donations and membership dues. But what exactly does it mean to be a member of the LLLA? We invite you to read our latest blog post to learn more about LLLA memberships and how to join!

LLLA Memberships

As 2022 wraps up, we would like to express our sincerest gratitude to all our members, donors, and volunteers who have made this year one of the most impactful years in LLLA history. LLLA memberships allow the Association to execute all of the activities we do to preserve and protect Lake Leelanau. Some of these activities include:

  • Remediation of invasive species, both aquatic and terrestrial,
  • Comprehensive water quality testing,
  • Preservation of shorelines to reduce the impacts of development,
  • Installation of high-pressure water boat cleaning stations,
  • Execution of the long-term watershed management plan,
  • And more!

To learn more about what the LLLA accomplished this year, read our Lake Leelanau Summer 2022 Recap.

What Does it Mean to be a Member?

In addition to knowing that your membership allows the LLLA to perform the above activities and the support it provides to protecting and preserving Lake Leelanau, LLLA members receive additional benefits. As a member, you receive the following:

  1. Access to all of our publications, educational content, and newsletters.
  2. Entrance to our members-only Annual Meeting, where you can:
    • Hear detailed updates on the work done by the Association,
    • Vote for our elected officials (riparian members only),
    • And eat, drink, and mingle with fellow Lake Leelanau lovers!
  3. Members-only communications and updates. These communications include topics of particular interest to members and Lake Leelanau riparians. For instance, privileged updates and access to information regarding the proposed expansion of the Leelanau Pines Campground.
  4. Invitations to members-only community events in summer 2023!

Many of our members live on the lake as riparians. However, you do not have to be a riparian to be a member of the LLLA. Many people who live around Lake Leelanau and use it are also members of the Association. If you are considering joining, please ask yourself these questions:

  1. Do you love Lake Leelanau?
  2. Do you benefit from Lake Leelanau being a healthy, recreational lake?
  3. Do you want to have a part in protecting and preserving it?
  4. Do you share memories on Lake Leelanau that you want to pass on to further generations?

If you answered "yes" to any of those questions, you should become a member of the LLLA!
