Hello – This is Jeff Sanborn, the new President of the Lake Leelanau Lake Association. I am proud to take the reins of this great organization from Nick Fleezanis, who has led us with vision and energy in the fight against swimmers itch and the printing of a new, revised, edition of the Lake Association Handbook. I want to let you know that those items are still very important, but also that there are several other things I would like to see happen in the next two or more years. Firstly, I would like to grow our membership, which prompts me to ask: what do you all want to see in the Association? Why is the organization not attracting more members? Do people even know we exist? Secondly, I would like to see a Lake Guardian group started – the kind of group that gets things done by involving concerned riparians along the shoreline and throughout the watershed – in other words, getting to know your neighbors. Thirdly, I would like to see more volunteers involved in Water Quality testing, testing for exotic plant species, and attending township board meetings with agenda items that impact our lake. Fourthly, I would like to see more members attend our board meetings – they are open to anyone in the association. They take place on the fourth Thursday of the month (except Dec., Jan., Feb., March) at the Leland Lodge at 8:30 AM – we will give you breakfast and welcome your comments. Thank you. Let me know what you want.
