Boater Safety Class

The Leelanau County Sheriff’s Department of Marine Safety will be offering a Boater Safety Class Saturday, June 23, 2018 from 8:00AM to 4:00PM. All boaters who will be at least 12 years old by the end of the boating season are welcome. The class will be held at the Leelanau County Court House, 8527 E. Government Center Drive, Suttons Bay.

Registration will start promptly at 8:00AM and class will begin immediately after. There is no charge of the course and the only requirement is that participants come with a positive attitude and a desire to be a safe boater. Adults are also welcome.

It is suggested that you bring a sack lunch and a water bottle. Course materials will be provided at no expense. Those born on or after July 1, 1996, may operate a boat legally only if they have been issued a boater safety certificate and have it on board the boat they are operating. Only those persons born on or before December 31, 1978, may operate a Personal Watercraft legally without restrictions. All others must obtain and carry a Boater Safety Certificate.
