A⁺ Shorelines

A recent real estate flyer highlighted exactly what high-end buyers look for in waterfront property: an incredible view, a privacy buffer, and pristine shoreline quality. If you live on the water, your shoreline is your personal gateway to the lake and the single most valuable asset on your property. While tastes vary, the truly "A+" shorelines share a few winning strategies. Take a look at these stunning examples below—they prove that the most valuable, high-end shoreline isn't just beautiful; it's a living, natural buffer that works with nature, not against it.

Want a Featured Shoreline?

Here's where to start.

Natural state.  Recognize and appreciate the natural elements and benefits of your shoreline.  Steep banks, low wetland, sand, and rocky features all have their own unique beauty. The more a homeowner introduces elements that depart from naturally occurring features, the higher the maintenance, the likelihood of disappointing results, and the ongoing costs to maintain "artificial" shoreline elements. Our advice: make the most of what nature gives you!

A master plan.  We advise homeowners who wish to enhance the value of their shoreline to gain an understanding of their shoreline environment first. What is the wave energy, soil composition, sun patterns, and erosion threats? What do you like best about shorelines that have similar attributes to yours? Invest in your vision for shoreline enhancement with the knowledge of what works. Your vision may include erosion management, adding color or variety with plants, or blending lake access with landscaping best practices. The master plan approach will accommodate your usage preferences and avoid re-dos or awkwardness that detracts from your shoreline enjoyment.

Get help. Homeowners may want to preserve a pristine, untouched shoreline or remove a scrappy lawn that cuts off and erodes at the water line, or something in between. LLLA has resources to help!

Lake Leelanau shorelines come in all shapes and sizes. Homeowners who understand their lakefront ecosystem can become impactful A⁺ shoreline stewards.
